There’s no doubt about it, I love the wines of Sicily’s Mount Etna.  This little gem is one of my current favorites- Cottanera’s Barbazzale Rosso.  It’s a juicy, mineral, snappy wine made from the indigenous grape varietals local to the volcano, Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio.  It’s everything you could possibly want in a wine from the slopes of this beautiful place- fresh, loads of raspberry flavors, and a lovely zinging acidity.

The name for this wine, “Barbazzale” comes from the words “barba” of “barbetta”, which means “beard” in Italian.  It is an homage to the bearded goats who can be found running around the vineyards.
