The Fatalone Primitivo, 2006 was a revelation to me at Sotto’s Oblong Table last week. In California this grape’s claim to fame is its close relationship to Zinfandel. Thankfully this very authentic, Pugliese wine had nothing in common with the Big, Badass California Zins I have tasted.
Lean, balanced, full of fresh, ripe strawberry flavor and racy with a mineral acidity- this Primitivo is a wine that gives me hope for the future of wines made from grapes grown in hot, arid climates everywhere- even California.
Such amazing wine! We have poured the “Terres” at our wine bar, Bar Ferdinand! Super light and perfumed; wonderful with a little chill on it…love your posts, thankyou!

Thanks Marc! Such a revelation in the sea of super-stick, big-ass Pugliese wines. So when are we going to see a little wine education from the Master? The wine blog-osphere needs you, man!
Yes a terrific wine and what a value. I know pour it at my pub. I haven’t had the pleasure of Sotto yet, but I’m old friends with wine director Jeremy Parzen and we drank a bottle down in San Diego recently.
Love the blog! Ill keep reading.
Hi Jon-
Jeremy has mentioned you and your place to me! I keep meaning to reach out and stop in- I live in Huntington Beach and am in San Diego frequently. I would love to stop by soon and check it out. We can share a glass of vino and talk about that is Dr. Jeremy Parzen!
