I just have to share this lovely little wine from Sicilia: Valle dell’Acate’s Cerasuolo di Vittoria. I saw it on the shelf at many a Seattle shop and restaurant wine list. I suppose when you live in the Northwest, you might need a sunny little island wine like this to perk up those endless days of gray weather. This wine is just the remedy.
Valle dell’Acate’s Cersuolo di Vittoria is composed of 70% Nero d’Avola, and 30% Frappato. The wine is juicy, bright and full of ripe strawberry flavors. There is also a nice, subtle layer of soft tannins on the finish- a quiet memory of the volcanic soils of the island- and a whiff of salty seabreeze. This is the wine to cure the winter blues, and the perfect reminder that spring is just around the corner.

Sicily is just around the corner
I now have my dates
Nice! When do we start making appointments for you?
we should get on that plan..lets chat and I can give you some dates
You know, I used to sell this wine when I worked for Mondovino distributing.
Ah, memories…
I bet that was fun! These wines are delicious- I also love the 100% Frappato. It’s probably my favorite version of this grape.
Yup, I am a fan of that one, too. Both of them were my introduction to the more obscure Sicilian wines some 10 years ago.
Great wine! Thanks for the coverage, Joannie!
I love me some Cerasuolo di Vittoria! You are a beacon of light for Italian Wine Geeks everywhere, Ned!
